GRATITUDE AS A PATH TO HEALING
November 23, 2021
“Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.” –Eckhart Tolle
A Moment with Stephanie
I think that my mindfulness practice has made expressing gratitude much more important for me as a path to health and happiness. I know that when I pause to reflect on what I am grateful for, I feel a shift in my mood, a shift in my body, and a shift in my relationships. The research into gratitude tells us that this is not just a momentary effect — gratitude boosts immunity, improves mental health and relationships, among other benefits.
What we are grateful for can be very mundane. A few years back my family experienced our sewers being clogged with tree roots– the whole line needed to be replaced. Ever since then, indoor plumbing has always shown up on my gratitude lists!
Here I want to share my appreciation with all of you who have worked with and supported Awaken Pittsburgh. We are seeing the organization and our impact grow every day. We could not do it without the whole community of people who share our mission, join our classes, and share their time, talents, and treasures with us every day. If you need support to incorporate gratitude into your mindfulness path, I will be offering a guided practice online this Saturday (see below).
As we enter this season of thanks-giving, I invite you to share your appreciation with others as well. In particular, we can show our appreciation of the Indigenous peoples whose land we live upon (in Pittsburgh that includes the Osage, Shawandasse/Shawnee peoples) and other Native American peoples by supporting them. Check out this list to get started. https://seramount.com/articles/top-native-american-organizations-to-know/
I leave you with the words of Rumi, “If you only say one prayer in a day, make it thank you.”
Sending you all much gratitude.

How Can Awaken Pittsburgh Support Your Mindfulness Journey?
Online Meditations
Awaken Pittsburgh is offering monthly guided meditations open to anyone! This is a chance to practice in the community together. Each session follows the same format: introductions, a period of guided meditation, and then a chance to support one another, discuss how our meditations are going at home, and ask any questions we have about practice. We hope to see you there!
November Online Gratitude Practice: Stephanie will be leading us in a gratitude practice this Saturday, Nov 20th at 9:30 am.
December guided online practice will be December 18 at 9:30 am.
There is no charge for attending, but donations to support our work are appreciated!
