Graphic Designer (Volunteer)

Awaken Pittsburgh is a growing, energetic organization that draws upon the wisdom of mindfulness and meditation to serve a broad public. Our mission is to foster well-being, empathy, and compassion for all by teaching and encouraging mindfulness and meditation practices. Awaken Pittsburgh uses evidence-based curricula and programming to serve individuals, organizations, and communities to seek clarity, focus, renewal, and improved productivity. We are expanding our programming and growing into new areas. We are therefore in need of a new Graphic Designer to join our marketing team.

About the position:
You will be designing a wide variety of outward-facing projects across digital and print media. To be successful in this position, you’ll be a self-starter, capable of delivering brilliant creative ideas, and show amazing attention to detail. This position is virtual; therefore, we are open to candidates from anywhere within the continental US as long as you have a good internet connection to collaborate.

What can you expect to do in this role? (Essential Duties)

  • Plan concepts by studying relevant information and materials.
  • Illustrate concepts by designing examples of art arrangement, size, type size and style and submitting them for approval.
  • Prepare finished art by operating necessary equipment and software.
  • Coordinate with/supporting our team of social media, web design, marketing, fundraising, and board volunteers as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Coordinator and Executive Director to make sure the brand voice comes through our graphics/visuals.
  • Create a wide range of graphics and layouts for product illustrations, brochures, mailings, social media, email, PowerPoint, websites, etc.
  • A minimum of 4-6 hours per week of dedicated time for Awaken Pittsburgh.

About You:

  • Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or related field/Equivalent experience.
  • Experience as a graphic designer or in a related field.
  • Demonstrable graphic design skills with a strong portfolio.
  • Proficiency with and access to required desktop publishing tools, including Photoshop, InDesign Quark, and Illustrator/ computer-aided design.
  • A strong eye for visual composition.
  • Effective time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Able to give and receive constructive criticism.
  • Understanding of marketing, production, website design, corporate identity, product packaging, advertisements, and multimedia design.
  • Ability to edit video is a plus.
